holidaying alone - cheapest options??

Helloooo

I'm considering a holiday on my own and just wondering if anyone knew how to avoid the single supplements that the big companies so love to add on?

I'm looking at going to the Canaries at the end of March, I've never holidayed alone before so would like to go with a tour operator just to have the security of having a rep there to go to if anything should go wrong, not sure how useful they would be mind you... I basically want to go and lie in the sun for a week and spend as little money as possible whilst there (would prob go half board).

Would a late deal be the cheapest option - surely a room with one occupier is better than it being empty - or am I only going to avoid supplements by doing a DIY trip? (I am not adverse to doing it this way by any means)

Any suggestions, especially for sites to find cheap hotel rooms etc, would be much appreciated!

Thanks!!

Hi Alison :hello: when I was looking for our holiday I found www.alpharooms.com very helpful.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
  • Do a DIY trip with the likes of expedia or ebookers. Its atol protected and counts as a "package" holiday but you'll get a lot more choice of flights and hotels and most hotels charge by the room by my experience, not by the number of occupiers.

The big companies use the same hotels and flights and you'll probably save a bunch of money which you can use for spending :j

Agree, whne Ive travelled alone Ive got the flight ( cheapie charter) and then rooms through the likes of Hostelworld.com or hostels.com . There will be some good recommendations in the lonely planet/ rough guides too for budget accom for singles - I had a fantastic time whenever Ive gone away alone, its wonderful, really hope you enjoy yourself :j
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    Hi,

there are a few specialist singles tour operators like solo's, Friendship Travel, Travel one etc. it's also worth taking a look at voyages jules verne vjv.com as they have some holidays with no single supplements. I've been with them before and was very impressed. Last year I did a last minute booking (booked on the Friday, flew on the Sunday) with Mark Warner. Depends if you're the sporty type - sailing, tennis etc. If you are then you could bag a bargain there.

Other tour ops who don't charge SS on some of their holidays is Mercury Direct.

these are just a few ideas from memory/personal experience. if I think of more I'll pop back.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j
