  • so have i got this right

i can not claim back money for intrest no matter how much it is

but the charges and the card missue i can claim back and add the intrest on that as well
  • No you cannot claim back the interest charges applied to you account!
    r
But you can claim back the interest you would have lost had the charges not been applied to your account in the first place. To calculate this you can use the interest calculator which i believe can be found in the free tools section on the main page.

    Kind regards
  • now i am more confussed so where i have been charged any intrest for going into my overdraft i.e overdraft of £4600 and have been charged £73.28 for being £4200 in my overdraft you are saying i can claim back intrest on the £73.28 but not the £73.28

is this correct sorry if i am being really dumb but getting myself all in a muddle here
    thanks alot for your help

    £28 is claimable,
    £35 is claimable.

  • Hi Bumble wit!

To clairy your previous question, you can claim interest on any charges applied to your account, in effect this is seen as you having been deprived of the money. the interest you are claiming back is calculated as the interest you would have earned if the money had not been taken from your account! For example if there was a charge placed against your account on 07/01/2005 for £28.00 then the interest you would have earned if the charge had not been applied would be £9.29 if the charge was for £35 on the same day the interest would have been £11.61 !!. I understand this interest can be claimed if your case goes to court. As i mentioned in my previous post i calculated what the potential interest would have been if the claim did go to court and my first letter intimated that they in effect would have to pay this out as well if the claim went further. In effect i wa saying to them " pay the charges back now or you'll end up paying more. If you go to the main page and use the Bank charges calculator, remember to put the date of the charge and the amount and click the "calculate" button, then remeber to add this to the list!

Happy to help as always !!!
