    Ofcom is an independent agency.

if its funded by tax its not - its accountable to UK tax payers, as is any UK public sector dept, unit or employee.......

    Do the research first

    calling via 0844 861 2525 is 1p/minute + connection charge of 8p

    18185 is 8p per call (aka 0p/minute).
I'm not sure to what that reply refers but the second example is wrong (18185's connection charge is 5p).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

No it's not funded by the tax payer. The nearest the government come to it is from grant. Its main source of funding comes from the communications industry.

Like we've seen with the FSA or English prisons, Thatcher may have invented 'agencies' to save her mates heavy work and legal responsibilities but they are simply an office (French = "agency") of the government. They jump when they're told to and simply have lazy overpaid executives taking control of things we pay our politicians to do. I'm sure they'd all be moved to QUANGO status and/or sold off to ASDA if they thought they could get away with it too.

They !!!! up all the time but hide behind branded bottle water and endless kicked in the long grass reports but we're still watching them very carefully. I'm sure Graham @ OFCOM is very pleased to serve us and appreciates the work burden as it keeps him in a job. There's plenty people out there who'd take that job should he choose another path in his work employment. Either way he's working for us (and himself) so his work email is ours to use. If the work gets too much he can post in the Benefits forum and he'd need to once the DWP pass his case to ABTA or ATOS or whatever they're called.

Whole thread pathetic. BT Basic is for those who "genuinely" cannot afford a voice line, not soap dodging chancers who think the world owes them a living.
Name one other voice provider who even comes close to this product.
BT is a business, not a charity.

    Excuse me,

    1) Can you confirm or disprove I am not REGISTERED disabled or any other family member of mine to MSE ?

    2) When did i boast about terms & IGNORING them ?

    [...]

Today AGAIN you have shown that to be in such disgusting manner FULLY, by attacking someone who may be disabled for using the Disability Discrimination Act in a disabled persons favour & has stayed within ALL T&C as laid down by BT as per our agreement. If at any point I " don't consider yourself bound by the terms and conditions of use " then BT would has kicked my bum to the kirb or taken legal action against me, so please explain to MSE why BT have not done such in the last 3 years Redux.

You have insulted every member of MSE whom is directly or indirectly affected by disability by insisting YOU alone or BT qualify a DECISION what is indeed a " EMERGENCY " line or telephone call.

Furthermore those whom follow & comply with BT's T&C with BT Basic & subscribe to Orange broadband with 2nd line/Wireless & Talk as somehow unethical for doing so when there are no BT Basic T&C disallowing such.

Again you have misrepresented yourself & BT, in legal context:

LUS & MOBILE : DDA protected

LUS & BROADBAND : DDA can protect as internet could be used for sign language communications.

BT Basic : DDA protects disabled DWP claimant customers being excluded

Your whole manner & attitude towards DISABILITY is DISCRIMINATION in its very context. And infact ILLEGAL from the granted ROYAL ASSENT into UK STATUTE by HM.

An apology to board members is surely minimal.

Whilst familiarising yourself with MSE T&C's, here:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/terms-conditions

Directly trying to make me disclose my status as a disabled or non disabled person is bullying and underhand & again NOT tolerated by MSE T&C's.

Whilst you so far refuse I kindly also ask you also provide to MSE board disclosure of your standing in the UK Telecom industry as per other representatives abide by, again from MSE T&C's.

diamonds, I am simply not interested in your rants about something I did not say

The terms of BT Basic are clearly set out, in respect of using or not using other telecoms products in conjunction with it.

I have made absolutely no comment whatsoever, either speculation or any other kind, on your disabled status or not, the merits or not of your entitlements or not, and any suggestion I have done is a total pack of lies and distortion.

I am not bullying you at all.

What is more, even though you are not entitled to ask, my employment status is completely irrelevant to any discussion of telecoms on this forum or any other. Your assertion that I work in this industry, that I am intending to mislead this forum's members in that respect, is completely unfounded, unevinced by any comment I have ever made on here, and your rhetorical demand that I declare it is either fabricated or paranoid nonsense.

So, before you threaten to cite me for disability discrimination issues, or have me censured by the people running MSE forums for something I have not done, I suggest you retract these falsehoods.

To recap: I make no comment on whether you are disabled.

I have only observed that your posts on the subject clearly indicate that you are at odds with the present terms and conditions of BT Basic.

What is more, I am certainly not the only person who has said so; a number have commented that you seem to have more telecoms use than falls within its remit at the moment, and that you therefore appear to flout it.

I repeat that the BT Basic product is stated to be intended for people in modest financial circumstances who are very low users. Someone who spends many pounds per month more on a number of other telecoms products may be seen by BT and other bodies as not within the target market.

Arising from your outburst now, which confirms you still have disagreements with BT about this product, I'll suggest you conduct your dispute with them and Ofcom, and if and when you succeed in having BT change its terms then post on here and receive due congratulations.

    Lastly, re:

BT Basic activation awaiting customer myself, I never use the landline - its there for £5 Orange Broadband Unlimited with free calls to 100 Interntional Countries, 01, 02, 03 UK landlines & Orange mobiles, simply register my Orange second line number with 18185 etc for cheapo mobile calls ;)

so go Basically suck eggs BT I have it well sussed it out ya Bas(ic)Turds :D

Will you still insist the last comment does not constitute boasting about sidestepping their T&C?

    BACKTRACK all you want

I can get BT Basic & Orange BB on the line under ALL T&C as the disabled person qualifies - NOT SIDETRACKING, jealousy get you nowhere in life....perhaps you would like a disability yourself to qualify, whilst being housebound & financially poor.

Orange Broadband is allowing the disabled person to study to obtain a DEGREE as physically they cannot attend uni. Orange 2nd line allows the to call for support their long distance tutor FREE. They are making every effort to re-educate themselves as to be self-employed as they will doubtfully be able to work even 16 hours in life again and thus DO NOT QUALIFY for FULL Disability premiums from Tax Credits to allow a minimum income of I think its £16,500.

Or they can stay on benefits ( for life ), work minimal & be no better off for rest of their life.

Orange mobile plan is NOW £0.00 a month for 200 mins and free landlines & Orange " your group " calls on the disabled persons handset, because Orange recognise the importance of such & and their errors have not helped, £5 broadband Orange offered the OLD FREE broadband aswell as the exchange is not LLU'd under the new FREE plan it would not be free as a BT Wholesale customer & the minimal use of 2nd line does not justify £5 BB deal, Orange offered it has they considered email & internet as particular a great way for a disabled person to communicate. The 18185 was never registered as the disabled person 18185 process of placing a call is too complicated, but yes the option is there...and given circumstances of finances being LIMITED while having to pay costs for stuff for uni that are not covered by anywhere
( example : postage costs as you cannot fax from a Orange Broadband 2nd line & BT Basic will penalise them for such ), whilst trying to maintain a HIGH cost diet to aid them with their disability.

Perhaps you would also have them pay back the Disabled Students Allowance award of £4000 for 2008/2009 term that allowed them to buy everything they needed to start studying from home ?

Perhaps you would pay £2 per meal for the scum food the local authority serves through its " Meals on Wheels " service so they can have a hot evening meal.

Try and average someone as a chancer all you want but they are using everything everywhere they can to just get some control in their life back to allow them to evolve under T&C that are not contradicting UK LAW, where it does I challenge it.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
