Out of curiosity, would an email suffice, as long as you kept a record or could the CSA denied that they'd received said email?Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

Now that is a good point..I don't know.
My only comment is provided you have satisfactory proof that they received it then maybe that would do.
Just a thought...the letter should go to the person to whom you are making the payment and that would normally be the PWC.
Perhaps MR GG or kelloggs36 will be able to advise further regarding emails?0 -

Thank you for your response. I have also advised this to my ex wife and she's happy with it, so I will set up payments via SO mid week.
Just a couple of questions.
As I have three children I am paying for, would it be best to include just their initials as it may not fit in the reference?
Also, would we still receive letters of confirmation once the caseworker closes the case?
Best Regards.
yeah initials would be fine or even just child maintenance - obviously there is ever chance you wont ever need this but what i have saw happen in the past is where direct payments are made by standing order with no reference at all and when the other parent is contacted they claim that the money was for something other than maintenance. So i always advise people to have some way of proving what the money was paid for.
When the case does get closed down properly both yourself and your ex partner will get a copy of the closure letter.
With regards keeping a record this is just for your own records so an excel spreadsheet etc would be sufficent. This would only need to be sent to the CSA in the event that your ex partner stated she didnt receive any payments . In this case the agency would ask for a list of payments and possibly statements from your bank.
Hopefully this wont be the case for yourself but best to be cautious than sorry

I know that if you send it through the CSA website (it's meant to be for complaints but I regularly use it for the day to day stuff and would highly recommend it - v quick responses...phone calls and everything!!), you get a receipt confirning that they have received it. Could be an option for the OP (who sounds like a lovely decent human being who wants the best for his kids....nice to read)0
