Please help regarding employee car scheme at nissan (nevos)

Hi
I wonder if anyone can help.
My partner currently works for Nissan in Sunderland; he is still in his job at the moment, but has had a drop in pay with regards to the recession (e.g. they have finished the 3 shifts he was on where he got more pay for working at night etc and overtime) and now he is just on day and late shifts. We have had a drop in income from his end by at least 3-400 pound.
We can no longer afford the 'Nevos' car he has (which he would be able to return next October). On speaking with Nissan today he has been told the only way he can take it back is if he dies or quits.
Is there anything we can do?
It is Nissans fault that we are unable to pay for this car (we have not missed any payments) but things are very very tight (i am a student nurse so only have limited income at the moment).
Nevos is a scheme where employees can 'rent' a car and pay a certain amount a month; it includes car , insurance, mot etc.
Please can someone help because we can't afford this. We have a mortgage to pay and would rather see the car go than the house!!

Thanks
Emma

No it's not Nissan's fault. When you take things on you have to be grown up and accept things can go wrong, what about the people who are losing their houses because they can't afford mortgage payments?

What would happen if you stopped the payments for the car? They would come and collect it and you may get a CCJ etc but the car is then gone.

But, has your OH actually spoken at length with the person responsible for the car hire, or has he just mentioned it in passing? I am sure if he stressed that he was serious he couldn't afford the car they may be able to reach an agreement ie the car goes back but you pay a charge. Also if you are in this situation are other employees too? May be worth asking around.

What car and how much is it costing you? Do you not still need a car? Would buying another car with all it's associated problems not end up costing more?
  • We are not going to buy another car.
I have a Ka which i pay little for; it is an oldish car but for the moment it does fine.
We do not need another car as his work is close.

I really do not want to argue with you; i have posted for advice not to be told to grow up

lol, no-one told you to grow up, i told you that it is a grown up world and you have to accept the pitfalls and what you are going to do if you cannot afford to cover leases/loans.

OP - I doubt your husband is the only worker in this position. He should talk to his union, they should - if they're any good - negotiate with Nissan for all employees who can no longer afford to rent their cars because of Nissan's economic situation impacting on their take home pay.
I'm afraid you're finding out the hard way that there's no such thing as a free lunch.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Sell the Ka to help pay the payments on the Nissan?

You'll be saving insurance, tax, mot and servicing costs plus you'll have whatever you get for the Ka.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • I am not positive but I have heard that Honda have let their employees return their rental cars because of them being laid off for the next few months
