How much to run my cd player?
Comments
-
The unit cost per kWh (12.33p or 13.21p or whatever) is what is costs to run 1000 Watts for one hour. So 74 + 20 = 94 (no idea if it's 20W for each speaker)
Call that 100W so it'll be one tenth of an electricit unit per hour. 1.23p or whatever.0 -
(On second thoughts, it's probably less than that - the speakers are not powered, they will be getting the power from the cd player so the 74W from the player probably includes the speakers so the 74W is probably a maximum usage.)
Someone with a correct answer will be along shortly0 -
Thank you. Well the manual stated 5W for the subwoofer and 15 for the speakers so not sure if this is incorporated into the 74W stated for the unit?0

IIRC the W rating on speakers (wattage) is the amount of sound they produce? Whereas they will be being powered by a W (watt) from the stereo. My understanding would be it would use 74w per hour (if on full volume!). Unless its on 8/9 hours + constantly I wouldnt worry too much about it, it is probly using 1p per hour ish
edit - if you are really concerned you could play your CD's from a laptop powered from the wall, my new ish (low spec) laptop uses 60W on full tilt from the socket, its a miniscule saving but a saving nonetheless0 -
thank you. It's just that I leave the radio on for my dogs whilst I'm at work (5 hours per day). previously I've been using a crappy battery radio so wasn't concerned. With this new CD/DAB radio, just wanted to check that it wasn't costing me a fortune to leave it running.0

Well it was Radio 2 but now I have DAB, perhaps i'll leave it on 5 live0

Your dogs might prefer Planet Rock.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

My parents do the same thing. The cheapest way of doing it is either battery operated with £1 a pack Poundland batteries, or by buying a Tesco value alarm clock (in the region of £3) and leave it plugged in. For a laugh I tested mine (I know im sad) with my energy monitor and it uses 6w with the radio on.
Would need to be on for 167 hours to use 1kWh, at a cost of 15pAlso, if the dog randomly attacks it, or gets caught in the wire and pulls it down or breaks it somehow, it doesnt really matter at £3 does it?
