13 year old flying UK to Portugal alone

My 13 year old step son's mum is moving out to Portugal and so we are looking into flights where he can fly from the UK, preferably Leeds/Bradford, Manchester or Liverpool on his own to Faro Airport in Portugal.
Does anyone know which airlines allow unaccompanied 13 year olds to fly alone and what care they receive?
Many thanks

www.ba.com from Gatwick, he's too young for easyJet and Ryanair.

I've flown unaccompanied as a child, Newark to Heathrow when I was 12 and Heathrow to Edinburgh aged 13 both with BA. The Edinburgh flight was booked specifically with BA as I couldn't travel easyjet from the nearby Luton airport. It was a few years ago so my memory is a bit sketchy and things may have changed (I'm now 21) but in both circumstances BA let me say goodbye to parents relatively late, quickly go through security and to the gate and straight onto the plane. A member of the cabin crew came up and introduced themselves and in both cases was friendly and checked up on me during the flight. On the Newark flight there was three of us unacompanied and we were seated next to each other and escorted through the airport together. On landing I waited for most to leave then BA led me through the airport, we waited for our bags then to the arrivals hall, where they waited until we saw our parents. I found the experience fine in both cases and the staff very friendly. I don't have a fear of flying though and had flown many times before.0
