Hi there.
Had the gas meter replaced in my property last week and i have know got an actual weeks usage for 7 days the meter reads 34 metric units used.
This works out to 392 kwh per week i think?
We only have the heating on approx 5 hours a day. Combi boiler no gas fire gas hob for cooking.
New system with trvs and thermostsic controller cavity wall etc.
We live in a 4 bed semi with 17 rads i have turned down or off all the unnecessary ones so down to the minimum i think.
I have estimated that on this usaeage we will be bankrupt by christmas.
Whats the average consumption and whats the average price per kwh.
We are paying 7.203 is this high.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

Average price for single tier is about 3.8 pence / kWh I think.
SP are 3.822 p / kWh. Plus standing charge plus VAT.
Ebico are 3.77 p / kWh including standing charge and VAT.
I have no recent experience with other companies. Perhaps other people can post re other companies.
Are you on a single or two tier tariff?
PS I see what you mean re christmas.0 -
Ebico comes in at £14.77 per week.
How many people in the house?
What temperature are the rads set for?
edited: dubious calculation.0 -
The 7.2p should be just for the first 1143-odd kwhs per quarter. The remainder will cost less than half of 7.2p.0

392kWh per week works out at 20,384 a year, which is about average. Obviously you'll be using less in the summer, so I don't think it's as bad as you think!
Based on 20,384kWh, this would cost £768 a year, so about £60 a month on Ebico's current tariff.
You could contact your current supplier and ask them to give you your previous years usage figures, then use these on a price comparison site to see if there's a better deal for you.“Official Verified Account

???
Less than £15 per week. Add a fiver per month for services charges for non-Ebico suppliers (the 7.2p units) and that's less than £70 per calendar month. Spring and summer months will, of course, be much lower.
£70 per month for five hours heating per day is low!0 -
Kim thanks your right I don't know how I came up with such a number. Thanks for pointing that out.0

Thanks guys for the comments.
Sorry i havent replied as i have been out of office.
It looks like i am poss paying to much i guess? If i could get away with £60.00 per month we might be able to eat.
I will look at the comparison sites tonight and the spelling sites tomoorow.
At the moment the boiler temp control thingy is set at 6 goes up to 9 can i assume that the higher the number the more gas i am useing?
We have the thermo in the kitchen and it never normally goes over 18.00 so not excessivly warm in house.
Poss the system has been over speced and have too many reds.
Anyway any more advice is welcome.0 -
Hi robbomc
Am I right in thinking your on a single rate for gas as opposed to a tiered tariff?
A tiered tariff is charged at a higher rate for the first number of kWh and a lower rate above that.0 -
Hi there
I am in b gas standard i guess pay on receipt of bill but going to have to change that to budget but not keen.
been on u switch it says i am on 7.163 then 3.414 above 2680 kwh dont know how they know that but will check at home,
Same as elec n power on 16.04 then 15.42 above 728.
interested in ebico as both tarrifs look better?gas 3.77 elec 14.27
not on the u swith comparison chart though????
any thoughts0 -
They certainly should be on the uswitch website!...interested in ebico as both tarrifs look better?gas 3.77 elec 14.27

However, price comparisons are not a simple case of comparing unit prices.
Many suppliers offer various discounts that give a lower annual cost. With ebico there are no discounts - the price you see is the price you pay.
Check all possible options on the uSwitch site. Maybe ebico are further down the list - but they should be there somewhere.
Edit: also when using the uSwitch site ensure you click 'No' to "Show only plans you can switch to online with uSwitch.com". Ebico don't pay anyone backhanders either, so there's no reason for a comparison site to allow you to switch to Ebico via them."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
