Cahoot Current Account

I'm thinking of switching my Barclays Current Account (currently pay £12.50 monthly fee for god knows what benefits that i'm not beneifitting from) to Cahoot (no monthly fee, £100 fee free OD, good online banking, sounds like a good all rounder account).
Has anyone had any experience of these...... good or bad?
I'm a little aperhensive about swapping, as to how it will all work with my direct debits during the swap, has anyone been successful in this....... or does it get messy?
Although I do prefer to do most of my banking online, you haven't got that 1-2-1 contact where you can just walk into the bank, how do others find this? Just to mention I have no speech so unable to communicate over the phone, so phone banking is not an opition - but I do like the sound of text alerts, do you pay for those?

I've had a Cahoot account for a number of years now. The only complaint I've got with them is that they don't operate the Faster Payment system. When I've enquired about it all they say is that it's under consideration. It doesn't really matter to me though, because I don't use it as my main acount now. Only had one glitch when it wasn't possible to log on for two or three days due to their main (and back up) servers going down.0

Cahoot is owned by Abbey who have an atrocious CS record.
If you want an entirely online bank, I'd suggest First Direct or Smile.0 -
Do you know if you can have an overdraft facility withis account? and can you still have a visa debit card? Don't want an eletron card!!!!!
Thanks
Yes to both of your questions. For more details: http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?site=pfs&task=homefreegroup&value=12828
Barclays don't offer Electron cards anymore.
Ask them to downgrade that account instead of applying for a new one.0 -
Yes, you can easily downgrade your barclays account to a normal bank account with no monthly fee0

Thanks all, shall call into our local branch this afternoon to downgrade!
Just one more question, would I still have the card protection insurance thing against fraud etc?0 -

I would rather have the Current Plus Account packaged account at £3 per month (http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?task=homefreevi2&value=14620&target=_self&site=pfs). It comes with the card protection as standard as well as extended warranty on products and identity theft support helpline. If you have the card protection insurance seperately, it will cost you quite a bit. http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?site=pfs&task=homefreegroup&value=128670
