giving backword on a rental

hi there we have paid a bond to rent an house but on closer inspection the house smells of cat wee as the previous tennnant had them and the carpets are badly stained,when we went to look it didnt smell and the stains didnt seem too bad but we paid a bond and got the keys,we havnt signed anything,
anyway we deiced we were donna have new carpets put in and paid ourselves but after getting the keys its awful it smells real bad and my wife is 7 months pregnant should i ask for my bond back and get somewhere else and should there be any problems asking for it back as it is with a private rental

Could you ask your LL/LA if they could inspect the property? This should be done just before/after the old tennants move out so if there's any damage (badly stained carpets for example), then that comes out of their deposit.0
