Will it ever end? A year ago I would have laughed as I was in one of the most secure jobs around!

Sorry to hear that.
Can you give more details of what you do and what the circumstances are around this??0 -
sorry I was trying to make light of how hard it is on my own! the only thing Im trying to do tonight is be sane and stop crying!
on a more serious note I really need some advice on this - it means my basic salary will end up at £13k but still doing a 60 hour week (yep Im in sales!), even on my contracted 42 hours this is under the minimum wage but can it be worked out like that or does the min wage not come into consideration? I have been with the company for 10 years and have just realised loyalty really doesnt pay anymore. My "new" salary wont cover the basic home bills I have let alone my debts but mum has offered to help out. I will start looking for something else but Im in recruitment myself and know just how tough it is out there finding anything!
In a nutshell we have a small recruitment consultancy with 8 staff and rather than get rid of those that are making the company suffer financially the md has decided to pull the reins right in and get rid of the office as well so we will be working from home - can I cope with that? Time will tell!0 -
Perhaps you can use your contacts to find a new job?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

indeed thats what I will be doing - its just working out how to survive in the meantime thats the hard bit0

surely they can't force you to take a 50% pay cut? It has to be agreed between both parties.
Personally I wouldn't accept it, I couldn't afford to. Redundancy would be a better option.0 -
I would check out the working time regs
http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/employment/employment-legislation/working-time-regs/index.html
and the minimum wage
http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/employment/pay/national-minimum-wage/index.html
And if your struggling with your bills and debts pop over to DFW
I put some links in my thread on here that are DFW bassed

basic @ £13k, not the full story if you are in sales...ok thats your bottom line but what's your ote?
how much can you make on commission?
How much have you previously made on commission?
that may give readers a better idea of your "take home"I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

I work in recruitment too and I've been told my salary is going to be cut as well - down to £13k as well, but with no commission or bonuses. I'm gutted0

Thats more indicative of the scale of cut, in the past some workers seem very happy to quote their basic , but when asked about bonus, comission etc....its a different picture.
Again you also have to take into account, the type of job, the qualifications required to get the job, the technical or other types of skills required to perform the job, then....and this is the bit that hurts...compare like for like.....
so some people working in Currys/Dixons may be on a similar salary to someone who works in an estate agents or "recruitment"....but they both have same skill levels , educations etc....so forgetting job titles....you have to look at if you are getting paid what you are really worth...and the old phrase "being paid market rates" also springs to mind...if everyone else is on £13k ....thats it Im afraid....you could always try and find new jobs...but again that may come down to skill levels and education.... employers can be real b@rstewards....10 years ago, my salary was cut from £21k to £14k....so you have my sympathy....I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

I have had hundreds (not quite but it feels like it sometimes) of recruitment companies coming into my offices asking if I need any temps...
Aside from the dreaded credit crunch, I just think that there are simply too many recruitment agencies about at the moment.
It was like a few years ago when every man and his dog knew someone who could design a website for them, the market was saturated.
Now its the same with recruitment, far too many people setting their own recruitment agencies because its (seemingly) easy and cheap to do.
Still all that doesn't help you OP, hope things work out.0
