approx 10 years ago I came across a storey of a person banned in the uk getting a greek licsence whilst on holiday and then driving on it when he returned to the UK, how legal this was I never found out, but after his ban was up he just reverted back to using his uk liscense.
  • I got a US Licence as well as my UK Licence, (As I work in the US a lot), was very easy went to the test center showed my UK Licence and Passport to prove I was legally in the US, paid the $20 Test fee did the theory test and 10 minute driving test (Florida, test was not even on the road, but on a little track, drive forward back and park, was about it), 2 days later licence arrived at my PO Box. (I keep a US PO Box for getting mail whilst I am at home in the UK).

I must admit I have been stopped for speeding multiple times in the US and always show my UK licence, never had to pay a fine as they never chase it up (And all this bull you read about being stopped the next time you enter the US is totally wrong), I think if I was going to get stopped I would have by now (Over 200 entries in the last 15 years)

Never shown my US licence in the UK though as I have never got a a ticket here, and if I did get stopped I think my UK accent and US Licence might get me carted off to the station!!!

I didn't realise people needed a license to polish things.

You do, but only if your name is Mr Sheen.

Thought I'd just dust that one off.

    it's garbage, perhaps xenophobic nonsense

well, maybe for a short visit, but ...

foreign people resident in the UK for a certain time have to apply for a UK driving licence, so they aren't exempt

    - I chatted about this with a German and a Lithuanian a couple of weeks ago, after I read the news story about an Argentinian
    footballer

The footballer, yes that was the Man Utd one was'nt it. Did'nt they keep him locked up for the night and impound his £100k car ?
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

surely this is wrong? people from within Europe can live in the UK for as long as then like and still drive on a EEC license? (please correct me someone if i got this wrong)

what this thread seems to have brought up is an important question i don't know the answer to - if an EEC license holder is caught speeding in the UK then are the UK authorities able to put 3 points on the EEC license?????

Does anyone know a difinitive answer to this?:confused::confused:

    (tinkerbell need not reply)

it's the people who set the rules are the morons, not the people who find the loopholes;) ;)

Any EU person may drive for up to 3 years after becoming resident in the UK on their valid ordinary EU licence, issued by their home country, after that period they must exchange their licence for a British one.

Different rules apply to non EU nationals.
