Giraffe Restaurant Overcharging Customers?

Options
Hi Everyone. I've been receiving Martin's email for a long, long time now but have never posted before - however I really want to share what we've found out this evening.

In a nutshell, we've just been for a meal in Giraffe in Milton Keynes and the bill came to a total of £62.55. However, when you add all of the items on the bill individually it comes to a grand total of £61.05 - and there's no service charge on there (which would be 10% so about £6), discounts or other changes to the total. Quite simply - it just doesn't add up (see what I did there?) and the staff had no idea there was a problem

I know its only £1.50 - but its still an overcharge and over x number of diners I bet it soon adds up!

The receipt -

I have the original should anyone need it to validate what I'm saying.

Looks to be a VAT error. All the itemised prices have VAT added at 15%, but the total still has it at 17.5%.

No way of knowing whether it's an accident or an "accident", but no doubt Trading Standards would be interested to know that they are using a cash register that has been set up incompetently...
  • We guessed it was a VAT error too - seems about right. Should I drop a letter to Trading Standards? Can anything be done about the countless people who will have been overcharged?

I'm not the OP but its a starter and a main from a select menu for a set price between certain times, hope that makes sense.

  • Hi

I have a problem with Asda home shopping. My itemised receipt tallies to £46.47 but if you add up all the items individually it amounts to £45.94. No one at Asda can explain why this is the case. They just put it down to a glitch and refund the difference. Now after reading this post it looks similar to the Giraffe story. Some (but not all) of the Asda groceries are Vat rated and this is maybe why there is a difference of 0.53p.
