Where can I get home insurance for less than 12 months?

I currently have seperate house insurance and contents insurance, with different renewal dates. So that I can, in future, take advantage of any discounts for buying both from the same provider I'd like to get the renewal dates in synchronisation. I also like to be tidy and keep things simple!
My house insurance (not contents) is shortly up for renewal. The most sensible option would be to renew this but either ask for it to end when my contents insurance comes up for renewal, or to cancel it mid-term.
I'd like to use a comparison site to get a new house insurance (not contents yet) quote - but which ones, if any, let me specify a term of less than 12 months? Alternatively, which providers will allow me to cancel part-way through a policy without penalty?
Thanks!

Hi there
You are looking at this backwards:
Your Buildings Insurance is up for renewal, so phone your Contents Insurer and ask them how much it would be to add the Buildings in to your existing Contents cover. They will only charge you for the period from now to your next Contents renewal date and then automatically give you a combined renewal quote so you have something to compare to on the open market. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Thanks, that's an interesting approach and makes a lot of sense, though the downside is my current contents insurer may not necessarily offer the most competitive buildings insurance quote. If I could choose from the whole market I could probably get it cheaper.0
