Teacher Training Bursary

DH2B is thinking of applying to do the one year PCGE course to start after he finishes his Physics degree. From my understanding we will have to pay for his tutition, which would be just over £3000 for the year but i'm confused about the bursary. Do all 1 year PCGE students get this or does it depend on the Uni/your financial circumstances. I've read that those training to be science teachers can get a bursary of up to £9000 for the year, is this for all students training to be teachers in that area or is it based on other factors?
If anyone could shed some light on this i'd really appreciate it!

I would double check the amounts as i believe they are going down. I thnk with the OGCE is you do it part time, so over 18months instead of 12, you dont have to pay tuition fees and get the bursary pro-rata.
I am doing the GTP and you get paid a salary.£2 Savers club £0/£150
1p a day £/0 -
There's a big shortage of Physics teachers, try the TDA website for funding info

Still 9k tax free at the moment in England for Science teachers.
The PGCE is normally completed full time - the 9k is pro rata-ed over 9 months, so you get £1,000 tax free per month.
Also 'Golden Hellos' are still paid for Science upon taking up a post and completing your first year. This is paid through salary and taxed.0 -
Yes he will get the full £9000 and also a non means tested grant of around £1200 which can go up to £2700(ish) dependent on the income that is assessed for the student loan. The student loans company will also give you a maintenance loan (dont know the amount) and a loan for tuition fees. Also the university may give him a means tested bursary too.
I start a biology PGCE in September after I graduate in July!0
