Car insurance claim, Direct Line

Options
First of all, I do apologise for all speling mistakes, English is not my first language.

I have had an accident, nobody was hurt, no other car was involved. I have lost control over the car, and I've crashed onto the field. Car did roll over couple of times, and it was destroyed - no possible chances to repair it. Police officer arrived on the scene, accident was reported.

I am a second driver, my dad is the policy holder.
It happened 4 days ago, and I have not notified my insurer yet only because I have bought the car a week ago, and I've put my details on V5 when I was buying the car, as my dad was not available at that time. I was suposed to change the details on V5 onto my dad's details, after I've received a V5 with my name on it. I still haven't received it yet. Car has been scrapped, I have pictures from the accident, and details of the person who took the car to scrap it, etc.

I don't really know what to do. It still hasn't been 14 days from the start of the policy, so I can just cancell it, and leave it without claiming anything. Is there any chance that I will get money from insurer if I will claim? (it is comprehensive policy btw.)

Is there any way of doing it? I know, I was stupid, I could have wait and buy it another day, with my dad with me, so he could put his details on the V5, but obviously i didn't and I didn't expected that something like that will happen. But it happened.

Leave it or claim it?

  • Hi there,

I hate to sound a bit sceptical, but the balance of terminology and insurance cancellation terms doesn't hold true when your sentence structure is so poor; especially considering the correct contextual use of more compex words.

Even taking your confession that English is not your first language, I'm not convinced that you are who you say you are and if you are trying to trap people in to telling you how to complete a fraudulent claim, I think you are going about it the wrong way.

If this is not the case then I will happily extend my apologies.

    Hi...

Well, I don't think that there is any possible way of convincing you that I am telling the truth. I do realise that there are many cases, where one would like You guys to help him/her out, with a fraudulent claim. It is not the case. I am a honest person, I've never had any conflict with the law in this or any other countries, but I do understand you - I wouldn't like to help anyone if i'd had any doubts about trustworthiness of that person. I have described my current sittuation as good as my language skills let me to do so.

I also realise that I did the wrong thing - I bought the car, and I did put my name on V5. I could've wait, and do it another day, when my dad was free to go with me.

I can't say that I am in particulary deep.. hmm.. poo, as car was not very expensive, but it would be nice to get this money back, especially considering current economic situation, and my personal circumstances.

It is not always as simple as it should be, unfortunately it happened at the worst possible moment. I am happy that nothing has happened to me or my girlfriend and this is most important for me.

Again, I am sorry to hear that because of my language skills you question my honesty, believe me or not, If i'd like to complete a fraudulent claim, I'd do more research, prepare myself, and I'd do it without posting anything on this forum.

I've been in UK for more than 3 years, I used to learn english at school in my home country. I realise that it (english) is not perfect, but I think that you shouldn't judge me because of that - I am currently on the road to improvement.

If the first car was insured correctly eg the log book was in your fathers name you could show that and then explain the reasons you registered the second vehicle in your name.

Was the accident your fault or the other drivers fault?

Are you the main user of this car? Does your father have another car insured in his name?

So whose owns the car? You state that you brought it yet it should be registered to your father?

  • I believe that your insurer will look at this and say that you are trying to take advantage of them; the car in your name, but insured in your dad's name and you just happen to be driving when the accident happens. How often does your dad drive the car and who paid for it?

I still think you are trying to make a fraudulent claim.
