Working tax credits payment

My friend has been receiving the childcare element of working tax credits for almost a year. She has been working full time (30hrs/wk). She has now been offered a place at university to do a diploma in nursing, starting in April. The problem is she has to stop working at the end of February, but will need to pay for childcare in March. Obviuosly she needs to inform the tax credit people, when she stops working this weekend. Will she still receive the working tax credits to cover the next 4 weeks or do they automatically stop the day she stops working?

Comments

  • She will receive a 4 week run on of childcare and WTC.

The payments initially stop then the 4 week payment is sent by giro cheque.

It isn't taking too long for the 4 wek run on payments to arrive these days.

So technically her weekly payments will stop, and she will get a giro, equivqlent to 4 weeks payment after a few days?
  • That correct. The timescale is not official (as there isn't one) but it is taking around 7 - 10 days to get the cheques out right now.

Only the WTC and childcare will stop though. The CTC payments will continue.
