There should be a rest area or somewhere separate to eat lunch, he shouldn't have to have it at his desk.

There isn't anywhere. They have one floor of an office and space is very limited as office rents are astronomical - even the desks are crammed in - definitely no room for somewhere to eat. I guess at a push he could eat it in the kitchen, but it would have to be standing up  - not to mention that a lot of the time it is out of action as they have catering people in preparing lunches for meetings in the boardroom.

Perhaps he should suggest that the boardroom is turned into a staff restroom - don't suppose they'll go for it though :rotfl:

Unfortunately it's not law that rest areas have to be provided, it's just a HSE recommendation. If they have to eat at their desks then it's a bit cheeky to restrict
what they can & can't eat. Anyway, none of this is helping you. It might be worth pursuing if he feels strongly enough about it, but most people have more important things to worry about.
Is there somewhere he can go in the warmer weather, like a park, just to get away from his desk?

You could try buying a snack pot (like a flask but with a wide neck). Then when you make things in a slow cooker cook more than needed and give that to him for lunch with mounds of bread.

I think because they get clients in a fair bit, they are concerned about horrible smells wafting around. I think it all started because people were coming back with Macdonalds and the place started to smell like a fast food joint. He's quite a sensitive soul as to how other people are affected, so he tends to be quite careful about not producing smells! He certainly isn't one to start rocking the boat with management.

Yes, there is a very nice little park around the corner from where he works, overlooking the Tower of London, so he's fine in the summer :)

This sounds great - do they really keep the food hot - or do they need a blast in the microwave? Where do you get them from?

I'd probably give them a blast in the microwave just before he leaves for work.

I've seen them for sale in Poundland before but not just lately so you could look in there first and then if not they sell them in most kitchen wear shops.
