Sony Memory Cards On E.bay

 I purchased a Sony Micro Vault 64GB memory flash card from e.bay seller, then days later (after I had received item but luckily had not yet used it) received e.mail from someone claiming they had purchased same item from same seller the week before me and to beware, that it was a fake. I contacted seller who disagreed but did, without difficulty, offer & make full refund via paypal. Then this week I see same item for sale again, same seller...and the winning bid was made by the person who e.mailed the warning to me??!! I have tried mailing this 3rd party via e.bay messaging, but no reply. What kind of scam is this?

How did I fall for it? I'm not out of pocket or anything, just curious to know how it works. And thanks for your concern:rolleyes:0

A scam where someone wanted what you won so lied to you so they could get itUndergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0

But I still have the item! The seller had several of them for sale on e.bay - still does actually - and asked me to dispose of it rather than 'go to the trouble of returning it'.... oh well, I'll never buy this kind of thing on e.bay again!0

Is it fake? Find a file as large as possible and copy and paste to the card until capacity is full (pref a video). Now copy them back to your hard drive. If all the files open / play (if its a video) then the card is genuine. If copying takes forever, or the file becomes corrupt, then its faulty.0

Memory Cards are a real problem on eBay. At one time it was reported that most cards on eBay were fakes/counterfeit.
The scammer buys a load of memory cards that have had the root file in the card changed to say 4Gb when in fact it's really a 128k card with a fake sticker.
It's sad to say it but memory cards are so cheap from trusted sources such as Amazon, Play, My Memory, Picstop etc that it really isn't worth buying from eBay.The man without a signature.0
