Things to see and do in Vienna

We are off to Vienna on 24th for 3 days - anniversary break

I am wondering what places to see and places to eat - we are looking for diet busting decadent cakes. We want the Viennese experience rather than a clone of another capital city.

I am also wondering what sort of insurance - medical and for any loss we need for a short trip

Thank you in advance

  • If you're looking for diet-busting cakes then Vienna's definitely the place. Try the Cafe Landtmann for opulence, cakes and history. On a cold day try Tiger Milk - hot milk, honey and rum. Nice touch practically everywhere is that you always get a glass of water with your coffee. Don't bother with Cafe Sacher 'cos you'll be ripped off and the cake tastes much the same in every other cafe.

If you have ever seen the 50's film "The Third man" you will probably remember the scene when Harry Lime is riding in the big wheel. It's still there and open for business. Called the Prata, or Riesenrad, it has very large cabins, one of which used to be hired out as a private dining room. News story here:-
