Take the case of a pensioner who might have a savings account worth £10,000. Less than eight months ago, they would have been receiving 6% interest. Today they would be lucky to earn 1%.
Now that amounts to the equivalent of a cut of £10 a week in their income
lol - he's talking about "living off the interest". I won't start that huge debate here, just refer to this lengthy thread instead.0 -
"Mr Kippest, a former local government personnel officer, said: 'My savings account at HSBC, which contained around £30,000, used to pay out £64 a month in interest. Now I get £6.40. Another account with £20,000 used to pay out £48 a month. Now it pays just 48p.'"
Are we supposed to feel sorry for this guy? Clearly he has his money in the wrong place if he's getting £6.40 a month on £30k and 48p on £20k. He should just move the cash somewhere else and quit moaning.0 -
Or Max Hopewell:
Maybe moving it might be a good idea...?'The interest on my Lloyds TSB account is 0.6% - on a £10,000 investment. I also have a Halifax account, containing £25,000, which pays out just 0.1% interest a month.
Best accounts pay over 3.5%0
