Help - Electric board refusing to pay for repairs ??

Hi All,

A few days ago the power failed at home. It turns out that there was a fault with the power cable. In order to find out they had to dig up the block paved drive. They will pay to have this replaced, BUT

The house needs a new cable from the middle of the drive, into the electricity box.

They are saying they will not pay to have the Kairndean floor replaced, which is where the current cable is (its not cheap flooring).

They will pay for us to have the electric cable 'chased' into the house which means a cable that sits proud of the wall all the way through the hall and down the wall into the electricity box under the stairs. This is a big fat Cable, and will look ugly..

What can I do ?

" Chased " means cut into the wall and they should replaster and make good any decorations .

  • Is it not dangerous to leave the mains cable simply tucked away inside a wall as opposed to away under the floor? I dont know, simply asking...
  • One option could be to have an outside meterbox installed on an exterior wall to your property. You would probably need to install this yourself or get in a builder to do it.

You would also need an electrician in to bring the tails from the outside meterbox into the master circuit board under the stairs.

It would not be possible to embed the mains cable in the wall as shammyjack suggests, it will need to sit proud. This will allow the cable to dissipate any heat generated.
  • Had a result in the end...

They dug up more of the drive and went in through the Lounge (under floor boards)
