I opened an A/C this morning.I was not asked for any extra ID.I only opened the main A/c a couple of weeks ago to get the £100.The main condition was to fund the main A/C with £1000/month.This did not have to be a salary transfer. The monthly amount will be debited from this and then I will withdraw the rest and pay it into a proper A/C!!
The lady who set the A/C up was helpful and fairly knowledgeable about the a/c.She said it was expected to be very popular.

I just opened the current a/c and the regular saver over the phone no problem (what a scunner I missed the £100 offer!). They did the ID checks online via Equifax.

I was not asked to switch or pay my salary into the account. I wonder what the T&Cs will say about this.

Husband's main salary goes into Barclays current account. I am also a joint holder. He doesn't have any spare money to do a regular savings, but I do. Does anyone think I qualify, as it's HIS money going in each month, not mine?

I also opened the regular saver over the phone (already have a current account) and was not asked to pay my salary or have £1000 put in there every month!? I can see the account online and everything seems fine. Not sure do I contact them and ask?

I opened my Barclays regular saver earlier this evening. I was a bit confused about what the advisor told me.

She opened the account for me this evening (16 Feb), but told me to make my first payment on the 1st March! This struck me as odd, as I have always made an opening deposit on the day of opening the account with all my other regular savers. She said my account would mature on 1st March 2007, but on reading the T&C's again, I think it will mature on 16 Feb 2007.

Am I right? I called Barclays' customer services centre a minute ago, but they weren't able to help at all and asked me to go to my branch tomorrow!

I paid £250 cheque today and the standing order was set up on 1st of March

    Terms & Conditions :
    6) An initial deposit of between £25 and £250 inclusive must be made to the Regular Saver account within 3 weeks of account opening.
    7) Monthly deposits of between £25 and £250 inclusive must be made to the Regular Saver account each month thereafter.
My understanding is that 'month'='calendar month', altough other interpretations are possible ...

I'm lucky that I have a branch fairly near my office. I'm going to pop in tomorrow and see if I can get them to transfer my opening deposit in. I can view my Barclays regular saver online, but I can't transfer my deposit into it.

I think I'm right that it will mature on 16 Feb 2007.
    5) The term of the Regular Saver account is 12 months from the date the account is opened.

I've looked into T&C again and see the following:
    7) Monthly deposits of between £25 and £250 inclusive must be made to the Regular Saver account each month thereafter. A total of 12 deposits must be made during the term of the account. These payments can only be made by way of standing order from your Barclays current account.
My first payment was by cheque and this cheque was from other bank account  . I think it is time to pay another visit to my branch!

I opened account yesterday and person who opened my account set my standing order from 1st March and transfered first payment from my current account then & there.

    Am I also breaching T&C ???

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.
  • Abbey messed up my 7% regular savings account and after a little hassle, managed to get them to give me the full 7% even though they had made errors with the standing order. From my experience with Barclays, they will rectify any errors/misunderstandings. I always take the name of the person who opened my account, if there are any problems later on they have to honour whatever contract was made over the phone between you and Barclays.
