Oh I agree so much with what Sarahs999 just said - if I'd known then what I know now!
If I'd saved more and spent less when I was young, free and single I might have been able to stay home with my kids when they were small which is my biggest regret in life - learn from the mistakes of others while you have the chance - trust me you don't need half the stuff people think they need, even though London is full of such temptations and the people who have given in to them who then make you feel hard done by.
Good luck - be strong and you'll get there!

But 1400 quite normal for ppl in London if quite central or very nice. Thats my one expense that wont change...no chance of me ever buying, well unless I win the lottery, and even then a mortgage for a small place would prob cost more than this rent.
Wow, if there's no chance of you ever buying on that salary, I may as well give up now then
It must be a relief your OH has found a job, always a pain waiting for the first payday though isnt it?
Everyone else has offered some great advice, so I dont really have anything to add, but definately agree that you need to factor 'going home' into your budget if you do it every few months rather than finding the money from thin air as and when you do go. And just include everything else in your monthly budget, dentist, doctors, birthdays, christmas, holidays - that, way there will be no sudden suprises along the way and you can just dip into what you have put by and juggle your money around that way.
Have you gotten a copy of your credit reports just to check they are all ok? Have you recently applied for a 0% credit card and been refused?
Also with reducing your OD, ask your bank to reduce it each month by a set amount, thats the only way you'll ever pay it back, otherwise it wont feel real.
Food is definately a mahoosive bill - the Oldstyle board is great on this front (and a million others) and def worth a look.
It might be worth starting to put some money aside for the wedding later this year.
How old is your OH? Good lord, why cant grown ups act their age and take responsibility. Why should it be a big song and dance for you to get money out of him? Now he was a job starting he should be grateful that you have been supporting him and want to make your life easier in some way like you have been doing to him. I would rather be single than having to deal with any of this palava!
Let us know how you get on xx0 -
Hmmm yes you are right, he should be grateful!! ;o)
Def need to think abt how much money for the wedding thing and going home...bdays etc difficult to calculate I guess, but will try.
See my wages might look a lot but after all that, not much left.
Havent recently applied for 0% cerdit card. Im not sure if I shd try as it would go on my file ?My report is ok, just doesnt have good history in a sense that I paid anything back, pls had 2-3 late payments on cards last year.0 -
I tried 0 % Virgin Card and it instantly declined it.Boooooo0

from where im sitting your first step needs to be to actually sit down and look properly at your spending and work it out fully and truthfully.
Otherwise clearing your debt is simply going to be a pipe dream.
Myself and OH dont make as much money combined as you do on your own every month and we are in the position to save as much as you pay in rent, and thats after mortgage, bills, petrol (i drive 400 miles a week for work) and all other household expenses.
im completely sickened
you have a lot of work to do to turn this around, and those 96 pound haircuts......i wish!!! ive never in my life had that or would dream of it, grey hairs grow back, buy a £5 bottle of dye from Boots and be done with it, itll probably last longer than hairdresser stuff anyway! (designed to fade so you have to go back more often and spend more money).
Good luck though, im gonna go get back into my jealous corner and sulk for a while

Weekend was spending wise not too bad.Friday going out was 30 pound including food, cigarettes etc. Saturday spend 12 pounds on present for family party, Sunday, well, 75 pound for food shop, thats for this week (I did make a meal plan!), then called the RAC abt my car and they actually figured it only needs a new battery. So we have ordered one for 49.99 which wass the cheapest online. Hopefully that will work else its 49.99 wasted! Today not a good start spending wise,95£ for OH train ticket for this week.argh! but I wont spend anything, got my lunch with me. Wont actually have to spend anything most of the week. Need too as well as nest week we are away for the weekend which we will need some spending money for but I think I will have a look if I can get some 2for1 vouchers for dinner and else its Mc Ds which other half loves anyway! Have a good week everyone ...and thanks so much for all the good advice ! oh and please dont be jealous abt my salary...Im in banking and could be redudant at any day !0 -

What sort of salary will your OH be earning schrojen ?
I hope he will take on board your advice on money and what needs to be done.
Definitely changes needs to be made, but I'm sure you can do it!
I so envy you that salary, my Ok and I together don't earn anywhere near that but manage ok
Good luck! :A

Hi Fiona, I guess its the case, you earn more, you spend more, about 6 yrs ago when I was earning a lot less it seems I always had more money ! I have just wasted so much over the years, its awful! But I will be good now!
OH will be earning 250£/per day which is great. However as I said hes got lots and lots of stuff to pay off, not that he actually does it, hes thinking about what to buy instead....arrrrghh! anyway he will give me 1000 per month which is his share of bills etc. Ideally I would like to try not to touch that at all and just repay my CC. I still can not get over the APR on my CCs...ridiculous! Have a nice day everyone!0
