I am on Post Office's "up to 8 meg" and get just under 7meg download and a constant 373kbps upload.0

I live a long way from exchange and only get 0.5 meg as I've had it a long time I'm only paying for 0.5 meg but it's no cheaper than 8 meg.0

If you're looking at changing ISPs, it's well worth checking out the LLU ISPs available on your exchange. I was restricted to 1Mbs with a BT line due to capacity issues on the equipment in the exchange, moved to a LLU and instantly upped to 3 Meg, which is about all the line can handle
, but still better than 1meg
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

I am with a llu provider the line will support 1meg but i'm very happy with my provider and have a no downloads limits so i'm happy to stay for the moment.0

If you log into the router you can check in the settings exactly whats coming through the line, which will be more specific than a speed test. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0

However...never trust one single bandwidth checker...best use several for a rounded view...like:-
http://www.speedtest.net/
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
http://www.speed.io/index_en.html
these are the favourites with the guys over at DSLzoneuk
I use these as they seem to be the most accurate and consistent....
I get an average download of 2882 kb/s, and an average upload of 640 kb/s using those tests, with a ping of 41 ms.
I'm supposedly on an up to 8 meg line, but I've never got great speeds despite being less than a mile from the exchange. An ADSL Nation faceplate didn't make any difference unfortunately.0 -
I'd suggest a trip to thinkbroadband is called for. That upload speed seems wrong for an 8meg line and the download seems stuck, you should be getting better than this. I get an average of 6k and I'm 3,5km from the exchange(as the crow flies)I get an average download of 2882 kb/s, and an average upload of 640 kb/s using those tests, with a ping of 41 ms.
