Cheap North American Internal Flights?

I was wondering if anyone knew of an airline or airlines that provide cheap internal flights within North America.
I've noticed that there's nothing like EasyJet or Jet2Go over here.. All the commercials try to steer you towards services like Expedia or Orbitz for cheap flights, but their prices tend to be the same or more than going directly to the airlines themselves.
Canadian airfares have skyrocketed since JetsGo folded last year. They purposely undercut their competitions' prices and as a result drove airfares down significantly.. Now they've folded, the only cross-country carriers left (I know about) are Air Canada, WestJet and CanJet who seem to peg their prices about the same and don't seem interested in a price war.. CanJet only fly to select cities and WestJet, who started as a 'no frills' budget carrier, are now installing in-flight entertainment and business class sections and increasing their presence with international flights. (With jacked-up prices as a consequence)
As for the rest of North America, I'm not sure but I've not seen anything particularly cheap..
I realise that this is a UK site, but I figure that many people here will holiday in North America, so having this info would be benificial to everyone..
Anyone got any ideas?

Go to the airports web site and see which airlines run from there then go to the airlines home page. If it asks what country you live in click America.0

The low cost airline was born in America by https://www.southwest.com in about 1971.
Others include https://www.jetblue.com https://www.flysong.com
Which bit of the US do u want to fly internally to/from?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I have found that Travelocity.co.uk have some excellent bargains as long as you book early enough.
I recently booked Rochester to Washington for £89 each0 -

Do you know of any of these airlines that service Canadian cities as well?
I'm not actually flying to the US right now, but it's good to have the options as we may holiday there in the future.
I was thinking that it could end up being cheaper for me to fly to, say, New York or Philidelphia to catch connections to the UK rather than flying to Toronto or Montreal with one of the Canadian airlines.
Winnipeg seems a bit of a limited airport though, and so far I've only been able to find US flights to Minneapolis and Denver..0 -
have you tried www.hotwire.com. They do do the cheaper flights where you don't know which flight you're on till you book, but you can get cheap flights where you can book specific flight (does that make sense?? It's early)0

Although US internal flights are cheap per-mile, the bigger distances cancel that out.
Even for fairly long-distance journeys, Americans tend to drive rather than fly (except if on business). For one thing, if they fly, they then have to hire a car or (horrors) use buses at the other end.0
