Blue Corner Cards

Options
Hi,

I've been looking through the boards about these Blue Corner cards and by the looks of it they seems quite a cheap alternative to the somewhat overcharging Speedcard. Also the application process seems a lot more straightforward.

My only question is, do they have chip & pin facility? Has anyone got one of these cards to confirm whether they do or not? As all debit/credit card purchases now require chip & pin as of 14th Feb I would like to know before potentially ordering one of these cards rather than it be rendered obsolete before i've even received it.

Just to be clear, the card is for my wife who has managed to go the last 4 years without changing her details from her maiden name for anything, and all bills, etc are in my name. As we've had credit problems in the past she can't get a bank account to save her life.

Thanks in advance.

    Website is https://www.bluecorner.co.uk.

I think they’re more aimed at parents buying them for kids, but adults can obviously own them too.

You need a Debit or Credit Card to apply for this card

Like I said, it's for my wife, not me. Also, you don't need a debit/credit card of your own, cards can be paid for by another person.

I've emailed their customer service dept about whether they do chip & pin and their reply is as follows:

Thank you for your email regarding Pre-paid
    Cards.

We appreciate that there has been some confusion
over the use of Chip & PIN.
To clarify the position, from the 14th of
February this year, if you hold a
card with a Chip, you will be required to enter a
    PIN when purchasing.

However if you're card does not contain a Chip, a
    signature is all that is
required. The statement by APACs relating to this
    matter is not clear and
relates only to cards with Chips.

To make this entirely clear, our Maestro cards do
not require Chip & PIN and
do not therefore have one and any card without a
    Chip will not be required
to enter a PIN to purchase at the counter.
