I would suggest the national express from London to Stoke on Trent using a fun fare and then there are buses in summer from Stoke to Alton Towers.
The main problem though would be timings - the bus takes approx 4 hours from london to stoke and then probably an hour on the local bus to Alton Towers. so your looking at 5 hours travelling before you even get to the park.0 -
A return ticket with Virgin trains could cost as little as £43 if booked in advance. That would be to Uttoxeter(changing at stoke) and there is a bus service runs from there.Cath x

Hi, i did this trip 2 years ago.You get the from victoriae national express coach to stoke on trent. From wher the coach drops you there, you walk around the corner to the bus station and the local bus takes around 30 minutes and drops you right at the gates.:A Your Always in my heart, you never ever will be forgotten-9/9/14:heart2:0

Virgin Trains used to offer a through ticket from London via Stoke and a bus and including entry to the park, but I don't know if it's still available. Try asking at Euston, they should know.
London Midland does still sell through tickets (via Uttoxeter and local bus) which include entry to the park, but this is a probably be a longer journey from London than it is on VT. The best option could be to get cheap VT advance fares to Crewe or Stoke, then use the LM through ticket to get a local train to Uttoxeter and the park. Obviously if you get a through train-entry ticket you'll save money and can probably bypass entry queues too.0
