Help with Car Insurance No Claims

Options
Hi,

Im verrrry confused and frustrated regarding how many no claims ive got and how many im supposed to have. Despite trying to describe this to Admiral i cant get a straight response from the kind of english speaking staff.

Heres the timeline of events:

I pass my test in 98 and drive a peugeot claim free for years.
In July 06 i buy a second car, a Volvo. Im told by the insurance company that i need a second insurance to cover this with its own no claims. No problem.
I continue to drive both cars without fault.
In May 08 my wife passes her driving test and i add her as a named driver on both cars under my policy.
In July 08 she crashed and the car was a write off. We recieved £1200 from the insurance company.
In late July 08 we purchased a Skoda now deciding to put this insurance in my wifes name with me as named driver.

We have been told that I have lost 2 years no claims due to the accident.

Somehow (and for the life of me i cant understand why) the are telling my wife (who i dont blame for any of this dont get me wrong) that she has 3 years NCB, and i have 1 year.

Ermmmm?!??! Ive over 10 years faultless driving (actually 12 accumulated years) and i now have 1 year NCB?!?! and my wife (who i love dearly) hasnt been driving for a year yet has 3 years NCB!

Factored somehow into this is a maximum of 5 years NCB with admiral insurance.

Like i say, something somewhere has gone seriously wrong. My wife is getting a new (old) car tomorrow (last one failed MOT, more expense!!!) so i want to make sure that the insurance is watertight. Im going to write a letter, but i need to know whats going off for my own sanity.

Thanks

Lee

    I hope this is not a wind-up?

Your best and cheapest option may be to get a multi-car policy?

  • Hi,

Nope! Not a wind up, a genuine problem. Can anyone shed any light while im waiting for the insurance co. to explain themselves?

    Thanks

You are confusing your 12 years without a claim as 12 years NCB.

The max is 5 years. You made one claim, so should have gone down to 3 years.

If you only are shown as having one, then if you are right (and only have one claim), they have made a mistake.

It seems that your wife (who seemingly hasn't earned any ncb) has somehow been given 3 years to which she's not entitled. Get it sorted, as the insurance policy may be in jeopardy if somehow the wrong info was given when the policy was taken out.
