Nice Hotel for a Theatre Break

I am coming to London in May to see "Mary Poppins" with my friend. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel with a bit of character, not too noisy and not far from Old Compton Street. We could pay a bit extra for somewhere really nice. Any suggestions gratefully received!

the best london hotel i have stayed in by far is city inn westminister, just where pimlico meets westminister.

it doesnt come cheap, but it is possibly the nicest hotel i have ever ever stayed in.

a taxi from there to old compton street would cost you around £8, although the area is also well served by public transport - or is even walkable if you are so inclined and have the time.

hope you have a great trip!

If you want something a little bit different try Special places to stay

Full of great places that are "special" but not necessarily expensive we stayed in a place in Camden that was a japanese designed house. Also in the past have stayed in a folly in lancashire and a Windmill in Norfolk (the one from the bbc ident)

  • https://www.rathbonehotel.co.uk I stayed here when Mama mia was playing at the Prince Edward Theatre.

It is literally a 2 minute walk across Oxford Street through SOHO Sq.

This hotel is absolutely on the money.

Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club is just around the corner from the theatre so late night music as well for a really long night out on the town.

  • Take a look on https://www.hotelexpert.com they have loads of London offers and do theatre tickers too. I have always found them very good.
  • Also the only sole trader coffee shop in SOHO is by the Rpince Edward Theatre.

It is on the part of Greek Street that goes between Old Compton St and Shaftsbury Avenue.

Called Maison Bertaux, well worth a visit.
