What's the deal?
Virgin is offering flights to New York for £225 return including taxes and charges. Flights depart either 26 Feb - 02 Apr 09 or 10 Apr - 31 May 09. For direct flights in spring, early summer, this is a great price.
Other airlines also seem to be biting back so if you can't nab a Virgin flight, others are available at similar prices.
To get these you'll have to be super quick though, the sale's due to end 10pm Wednesday 4 March.
How to find ‘em
The best place to look for the flights is screenscraper Kayak. Enter your trip details and it’ll zip them to scores of normal airlines, including Cathay, to find the cheapest.
If you don’t mind when you fly, there’s a quick way to get an idea which dates are available. On the Kayak homepage, enter London to New York, then below to enter a date.
A box of ‘best fares’ should then appear on the right hand side. If you flick through the months, it should be clear which dates have £225 flights. Just search for a flight leaving on that date, and hopefully the cheap fare will be available.
Also read the Cheap & Free Flights guide, for more bargain flight finding tips.
PS Thanks to Wish I'd Read Sooner for the top bargain spot, this post has been inserted to add a fully detailed brief.

Virgin Atlantic are doing a deal of the week to New York (Newark)
You have to book before 4th March.
Economy seats are £225
Premium Economy are £499
http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/specialoffers/fareoftheweek.jsp
I've had a quick look BUT the cheapest I can see is £259.66 at the moment. They may not have updated the fares yet as just starts today, it might start at 9am??
UPDATE
Seems like they are on the site freely now. I've seen quite a few at £203 BUT although I clicked on a few they ended up £224.70 - if which just £15 is the fare, the rest is tax!
Just a tiip - for the cheapest fares make sure your flights are flight numbers, 1, 2, 17 or 18 - just click on all the flight options they give you for your dates.
