Milton Keynes Senior Schools

I asked on here a short while ago about moving to Milton Keynes and the response I got was very helpful.
I have done a lot of research and it seems most of the secondary schools are very good. What I would now like to know is what specific areas should I look at so we are in the catchment area of two very good schools so that if we get turned down with our first choice of school the second choice of school will be just as good.
At the moment I've been told the good schools are Shenley Brook End, Denbigh, Hazeley, Stantonbury, Oakgrove but I really don't know whereabouts to live so we have the choice of two good schools.
Thanks for any replies.

Thanks Robert, I know about the schools, I just don't know what catchment areas will qualify for two good schools as not all the schools are good IYSWIM.
I already know what its like to be turned down by a good school and be left with a rubbish school and I'm just trying to avoid that happening again when we move to Milton Keynes.0 -
denbeigh is in shenley church end, which is a popular area, but I don't know that its close enough to any of the others. I would suggest looking up the schools, then putting them into google maps and it will show you how they are situated.0

Thanks meeps, I've already done that. I think I'll just have to contact the schools direct and ask them what other schools come within their catchment area.0

HI,
Don't want to throw a spanner in the works but I lived in Milton Keynes for 10 years and movd to Cornwall 3 years ago, just before my son was due to got to secondary.
I hav to say I wouldn't recommend anyone live there. Not because it's a city but because the schools are pretty awful ( the one they wanted to send my son too was miles away when there was one within walking distance and had just had a fatal stabbing). Most of the estates are far roughr than they look, because it's sucha new city they look ok, but at night there's nothing but noise, and crime. We lived on a good estate but my son found a used needle in the bushes outside our house and that was the decider. I don't know if the schools have changed for the better and it would be wise to check the ofsted reports thoroughly. My husband went to Denbigh school and it was rough as you like and still was when we left. Please think carefully before you move.
Avoid Kents Hill, Walnut tree, Stantonbury, Shenley, Netherfield, Oldbrook, Fishermead, Neath Hill, Two Mile Ash. My friend is a police officer in MK and she says it still getting worse.
I'm so sorry to sound so negative but I'm trying to be honest...
hope you find somewhere good to live.0 -
Thank you for your honest reply. I know from personal experience not to rely on Ofsted reports as they do not tell the truth.
My son went to a primary school that was considered a highly regarded school but he experienced lots of bullying from both pupils and the teachers and he was only seven at the time. Anything negative is covered up by the schools as they don't want it appearing on any ofsted reports.
Sadly I think England in general has gone into a massive decline no matter where you live.0 -

Ssshh, otherwise everyone will be moving there.
Seriously though, where I live a lot of people will have you believe its a brilliant place to live and a lot of people do actually aspire to live here and move in especially for the schools. However there is also a lot of bad stuff going on which I have seen with my own eyes and again it's not talked about because it doesn't fit with the perfect image. Some people can turn a blind eye and pretend its not happening in their area (like lots of people do where I live) and some people can't turn a blind eye but really anti social problems go on everywhere with some more areas more prevalent than others.0 -

I honestly think you assessment is very wrong. I have lived and have been in touch with MK for nearly 13 years and i beg to disagree that it is a rough place. It is not a perfect place. Infact nowhere is perfect but it is certainly not as rough as you have tried to potray.
Some of the areas you have classed as bad like kents hill and walnut tree are widely regarded as peaceful areas. Of all the places you have listed, the ones which MAY be classed as rough are Fishermead and Netherfield largely cos they are predominantly council area.
There are 100,000 homes in MK and on the average 3 homes are burgled per day. Not an impressive stat but it is certainly better than most parts of UK.
How many times has anyone heard tales like gun crime, gang shooting etc originating from MK in the national news. It is all in the bigger cities like London and Manchester. I am not suggesting the city is clean of all this but it is not as rampant or evident.
I would encourage and recommend MK and this is no bias but my honest assessment.
If anyone wishes to check crime figures, you can easily visit thames valley police website. Not sure of the URL, but just google it.
Also Milton Keynes council is good source for info as well0
