Here one that's saved me loads of money.
When you go to B&Q warehouse always take a screwfix catalogue with you and compare the price of the same item. If it's cheaper in Screwfix get them to price match at B@Q and they will also give you 10% off the lower price. I saved £15 off a radiator last week but also saved £2.00 on a 35.00 tub of flux.
Crazy but B&Q and Screfix are part of the same group!!

I doubt they would do it if you dont have a local screwfix nearby
Basically my local B&Q (warehouse) has no competition other than a few local small handyman stores and trade/builders merchant which tend to be very unfriendly to non trade and dont ever display prices you always have to ask0 -
"trade/builders merchant which tend to be very unfriendly to non trade"
This will soon change when they start going out of business, they will grab anyones money.
We have a local builders merchants who will supply non-trade without any problems.
I have found them to be very reasonable on price.
I might even ask if they will pricematch Screwfix as we have one about 4 miles away.0 -
or you could save yourself the hassle and just shop at screwfix !This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Our local handyman storekeeper isn't the friendliest of folk but his prices are a darned sight cheaper than the B & Q, plus you can buy bits separately. Thing is you need to know what you're asking for. (Not that that stops me)0 -
It isnt the local DIY shop I have issues with, I use a couple the one nearer to me the most as its a very friendly store and they try and help but sadly have a limited range
I just find the big tradesmans stores the most unfriendly when I say that I mean in way of finding out prices etc you have to keep going to ask as they dont display them
Perhaps I should have said its less customer (retail) focused rather than unfriendly.
I do know B&Q aren't renowned for cheap prices on some goods. I do try and shop around for deals even resorting to internet for some items as its still cheaper than using B&QOur local handyman storekeeper isn't the friendliest of folk but his prices are a darned sight cheaper than the B & Q, plus you can buy bits separately. Unfortunately we dont have any local hardware stores so its B&Q or online screwfix for most of my stuff. That said I found a great paint supplier which is relatively local where the guys know paint and related products inside out and are more than happy to help. They might be a little more expensive than the likes of B&Q but its a price worth paying.0

You do know that Screwfix is owned by B&Q?
Toolstation.com is a few pennies cheaper than Screwfix, better customer service and freee postage over £5. Not as big a range as Screwfix but the free postage over £5 is fantastic.0 -

But yet- it's great, as it's normally next day delivery.
I've also found Amazon Prime has many of the toolstation items at similar prices, so that gets around the £10 limit if you need a small item and can't go past a suitable shop.0 -
I went into B&Q the other day to buy some of those red waterproof gloves with the soft white knitted cuffs, for use while I was working on a boat. They were £1.99 a pair. However, there was only one checkout operating and there was a long queue. I was not prepared to wait, so I put the gloves back. On the way home I remembered that there was a Toolstation nearby, so I went in there for the gloves. They cost me 75p a pair. As far as I could tell, they were exactly the same as the ones from B&Q. You have got to watch these rip off merchants. As a general rule I will not buy from price match shops. It seems to me that if they can reduce the price to match someone else when challenged, then they are not trying to sell for the best price to start with.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
