Buying Baby Milk before baby born?

I know that baby milk and nappies are quite expensive and I wanted to stock up on these items before my next baby is born while I am still working full time. I know that baby milk has use by date and due to problems with baby 1 I ended up switching the type of milk I used quite early on.

So instead of buying the milk and nappies now I wanted a way to save for it - but I haven't got the willpower to just save the money and I am sure that I will spend my money on other necessary items.

One of my friends suggested buying gift vouchers and saving them until needed. Any suggestions?

What about putting some money each week onto one of those boots gift cards, or gift vouchers for mothercare, or tesco do beautiful baby stuff and also dried milk so vouchers from there would be good if they do them

Good idea helen, but labradoodle11 are you sure you don't want to give breast feeding a go?

Just do as helen says, if you recive tax credits you should get milk at a reduced rate, I get this from the local health surgury. That way you will have the vouchers to buy nappies and clothes

  • you could buy the nappies ready each week in boots and save up the points to buy the baby milk when baby arrives.
    :j
  • Unfortunately I do not receive tax credits and will not be eligible for any other benefits - thats why I want to save. And its a definate no to breastfeeding - even though it would save me a packet.

Think I might give Tesco a go. I can buy the milk from my health centre, but its only a couple of pence cheaper. :smileyhea

I second what Rikki has said. You won't need to spend any money on formula milk if you breastfeed. That's ultimate moneysaving.

I was told, many years ago, not to buy nappies too far in advance as the sticky tabs perish over time.dont know if its true, worth checking with nappy companies maybe

oh tesco's disney stuff is lurrrvly, maybe buy different vouchers from diff shops each week, next do beautiful baby stuff too, good luck with your pregnancy and best wishes to you :)
  • I would save some money rather than buying milk - my son didn't like many of the milks and ended up only liking one!
  • You could always save up the money to buy cloth nappies too.

My cloth nappies have saved me buying over 22 000 disposable nappies and trainer pants for 4 kids, I'd never consider disposables because of cost - would have cost around £4000 for disposables.

I second the bf option too, another saving of £1000 over a year's formula for 4 kids.
