Courtesy car excess for damage?

I have been advised by Churchills to use one of their "reputable" body repair companies. They took my car away on Friday to assess the damage, only to get round to looking at it yesterday.

When they decided they will do the work and Churchills will pay up, they didn't have any courtesy cars left so we were without one yesterday and today (Churchills are obliged to issue courtesy car as soon as work is permitted to commence on car)

They now tell me they cannot do the work until the 20th (Chrchill said the company would be quick). That means we have to have a courtesy car for quite a number of days. No problem but they again didn't have any left so they had to hire one from a private company. When I picked up the car from them they said if there is any damage, even a scratch, I will have to pay £600 excess unless I cover myself for £10 a day which would result in me paying nothing if it were damaged.

Because this is not my fault that my car has to be in so long as well as the fact that they had to hire a car, I feel worried sick anything will happen to the car while I have it. We have to park it on the road where my wn ws just hit so I am not happy.

Does anyone think I could argure this case as a) Its not my problem they had none of their own cars left to lend b) They are taking an unacceptable amount of time to repair the car.

Ian.

if you look at your churchill policy booklet the courtesy car is covered by your existing insurance.

Speak to churchill & get them to confirm that's the case even if the courtesy car is actually a hire car.

what andy L means is that you won't pay the £600 excess you should only pay your normal excess.

It's odd the hire car are so agressive - whenever I go in they don't mind the odd scratch because the cars are usually dented and damaged anyway. Ask churchils to arrange someone who sounds a little more trustworthy! Definately check your policy!

Churchill didn't seem to know how to help. The company made a mistake and treated me as an external customer so I am covered on my existing insurance.Phew! ! !

The car is brand new so thats why they are being a bit picky.

Brand new car or not they should still know instantly whether you are a customer of theirs or not!
