green card for europe

would like to know if possible what insurance companies charge for green card cover in Europe.
Is a green card still needed now in the EU. if so why?
If you have full comprehensive cover in the UK you only have third party cover in Europe, is this true! If so what cover do you have if you go to the EU with third party insurance cover then!
Dont know if Martin Lewis can shed any light on this grey area or anyone else in the know!
Would be much obliged on some feedback.
Thanks Ric.

Generally a Green Card isn't needed in the EU. However it is better to carry one if you visit the Eastern EU States. Some Insurers no longer issue them.

If you don't have EU cover then all you get is thrid party cover. It depends on your policy and who you insure with. Some Insurers don't include EU cover and you need to call them and let them know. There may be an additional premium payable.
