does the council tip take old car tyres?

as above...need to get rid of some old wheels and tyres

Some will, some wont - you'll need to ask.
They're not to go into landfill, any longer, they have to be stripped from the rim & shredded.
The wheel goes into scrap metal bin, in the tip, should be fine, though.
Otherwise local tyre bay will for a crisp £5 note, I'd have thought!!

My nearest tip in one council area takes them. The next closest tip 5 miles away but under a different local authority doesn't.
You may find it helpful to look under refuse or environmental waste on your own councils website. Most councils list the locations and opening times of their local tips and what they take.The man without a signature.0
