Ending Tenancy agreement

Hi everyone.

Was after a bit of advise. Our currently renting our house from a private landlord, We signed a AST in September 2005 and it was due to end 9th March 2006.

We have just found a house available to rent got through all the checks. The woman from the agency we went with phoned our current landlord (trying to get the contract for reletting this house) and he told her we have to give two months notice.

I'm stuck all the advice i have read says we only have to get one months notice but landlord is saying two.

Any advise you can give i would be most gratefull.

Assuming your rent is paid monthly then one full calander month notice is required, ending on the same date in the month that the original fixed term came to an end. In your case appears to be the 9th of the month.

If you serve notice now, you will be able to move 9th April. If you serve notice after 9th March, you will be able to leave 9th May and so on.

    Thankyou for your help.

I got myself into a panic and rang Shelter in the end and they gave the same advice you gave . Looks like our landlord is still going off the orginal AST. Will write notice tonight and get it posted recorded in the morning.
New house with more space for kids here we come :j

    Thanks again
