sneaky increases EDF read and save

EDF are cancelling the current £12 a year discount for reading your own meter and replacing it with nectar points ,reportedly of the same value but only redeemable for product at Sainsbury or Debenhams. In other words we lose £12 and EDF save money by doing a deal with nectar for probably less than half they were paying the customer .
How long before we lose the discount for Direct Debit ,Dual Fuel etc and get under-valued nectar or air miles ,but not the cash.

  • This is worrying trend. Nectar is behave recording system. They recorded everything to buy and do when you use a Nectar card. Let make it state what you are doing when spend with Nectar card. Every item is recorded and is sold to other parties.

It such that same people like Martin Lewis who go around saying good things about points Nectar without mention the disadvantages.

  • On 2nd February 2009 EDF's Director of Customer Care (Marshall Monks) wrote to me to say EDF would in future be issuing gas bills in line with the dates of the quarterly meter readings. In other words they are realigning gas billing dates to some customers. EDF stated in the letter this was a step "in their continued drive to find ways to improve their offered service".

It is reasonable to assume this letter was sent to many of EDF's gas users.

I have now received my first bill since that letter and guess what? Not only has the Dual Fuel Discount been shown as cancelled on the bill BUT the the Direct Debit Discount been omitted entirely. This equates to a missing £10 plus VAT.

I rung EDF's Customer Service on 0800 096 9696 (then option 9) and was told some of their bills had indeed been despatched with errors.

Their operative told me she would put the £10 as a 'goodwill' credit against my next bill. I'll certainly keep an eye on this to make sure it happens.

So please check your latest or next EDF bills for the 2 discounts above. It seems that EDF are not sending out amended bills so it's entirely up to you to get your money back. The phone no. is above.
