E-on questions

Ive recently moved into my first home which is a rented 2 bed apartment

Now i set up my account with the current supplier which was eon (electricty only flat). I then setup an online account and a direct debit. The direct debit was calculated at £96 per month. I was sent a letter to confirm this and that the direct debit would start at the beginning of april. Which is two months after i moved in.
So
1. When my first payment goes out will i be a month in arrears straight away?

Now the best bit. Ive been on to my online account just to make an alteration to the direct debit. The direct debit is now calculated to be £91 a month.
2. Why?

3. When are online account and direct debit discounts put on my bill?

I live in an all electric two bedroom flat supplied by Scottish Power and have recently had my DD increased to £36 a month. Have you tried a price comparison site? Are you reading the meter regularly?

  • They usually use the previous occupier's usage to help calculate your predicted usage and then in turn work out how much your Direct Debit should be.

If I were you I would make a seperate payment for the same amount asap so you aren't in arrears. Then if you've overpaid once your bill comes out, you will be in credit. Much better than owing them some money.

Best way to cover your back I would say.

When I get my E.ON bill, the discounts are applied as I'm billed so it's each quarter.

    Hi Laminypie

When setting up Direct Debits it takes a few days to process the information through the banks. Therefore, if you asked for payments to be taken from your bank at the beginning of each month it would have been too late for the start of March.

In this case the Direct Debit would start at the beginning of the following month.

I agree with JoyEdinburgh and would make a one off payment in March to keep your account in credit.

Alternatively, you could change the collection date so the arrangement starts in March but this may not suit your budgeting.

The online Direct Debit quote tool will change as the date changes. This is because of the way the usage is calculated. You could go on another day and the figure will have changed again.

The important thing is the letter you have received which confirms what amount will be collected. This will not change unless we notify you and you will be given notice of this.

Discounts are applied when statements are issued each quarter.

    Hope this helps.

  • Looking at our usage so far which is nearly a month we are way below the 90+ pound direct debit so ive transferred the money i had allocated for this month to the account i pay it from and when the first direct debit does goes out at the beginning of april i will pay the difference.

I believe i can use your website to make an extra payment?
  • Hi Laminypie
