Car insurance and protected no claims

Hi,
Need some help with my car insurance.
I currently have 4 years protected no claims. I had an accident which was not my fault before I started protecting my insurance 2 years ago, therefore keep my 4 years. During my first year of protecting my no claims I had an accident which was my fault. I protected my no claims again for a second year and have not claimed at all this year.
Does my no claims bonus go up to 5 years now I have had another year without claiming on my 4 years protected?
If I remove my protected no claims does my no claims bonus go down from 4 years for the accident where I was a fault a year and a half ago?

Think I can help.
First of all, the non-fault claim you had when you had 2 years no-claims bonus (NCD) should have no affect to your bonus or its protection.
I believe that your no-claims should continue to rise provided your NCD was protected at the time of the accident - but to be 100% sure, check what it says on your renewal notice as NCD has to be declared on there. :j
Finally, if you choose to remove your NCD protection (and I cant think why you would with 1 fault claim under your belt), then you would be insuring based on the NCD on your renewal - and would not have any years taken back from you.
Hope this helpsTop Tip is £450 away from clearing the overdraft and being debt free0 -
Hi
I was in the same situation as you. I had my first accident (which was my fault) after I had built up 4 years no claims and had protected it.
At my next renewal I still had 4 years no claims. I had not had a claim free year so I did not get an extra year's no claims bonus. If I had not have protected my no claims bonus it would have dropped to 2 years. Protected no claims means you will not lose your no claims bonus if you claim, it doesn't mean you can go on adding to it if you do.0
