Questions about “Local SEO”??? “Local SEO” service for my web business

I have my own website but have never been able to place top 10 in the search engines. I have read about SEO and even tried to optimize to achieve better positioning without any results.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I am not a professional developer, I am self taught, but have been writing html for years.

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

  • It depends entirely on your target market. However, meta tags, meta descriptions, h2 headings, alt descriptions and great updated content are never going to achieve top 10 in a flooded market. (mobile phones, sat navs, insurance etc) without some great offsite seo.

You need great backlinks from well ranked sites and a good marketing strategy, without resorting to spam. I find forum posting with sig links useful
    Not allowed here though

For example write a page about “intelligent brown snowmen” and you will most likely hit the top ten for searches for these. Do a page on cheap car insurance, and you will be placed nowhere. Its all about keywords and saturation I believe, although a good, relevant domain name can be of some help.

You mentioned Local SEO in your title, care to elaborate?
I presume you mean to rank well for 'your type of business' in 'your town', rather than just ranking for 'your type of business'.
Eg your could easily rank top 10 for 'car insurance in Bawdsey, suffolk' but no chance of ranking for 'car insurance'.
I f that is the case, it is fairly easy to achieve. If your want you can PM (private message) me your website address (as you can not post it on here) and ill have a look and let you know what i think can be done.

The OP mentions it because it's one of the key phrases (like Local Internet Marketing) that are used by the SEO company that planted this thread. They then come along a bit later and add in a spam link for their company.

Just put the title of the thread into Google and you'll see that this is not the only place that the OP has asked this "question".

Or you can Google a rather odd phrase from the OPs previous "question":

"Hello I am new to this and I was takes to get my companies website up in the SE list."

What a surprise - 126 hits for this curious turn of phrase, all forum posts from someone who is apparently "new to this"...

For anyone who bothers to try to answer the "question", yes it is.

But for the spammer, probably not. I ~think~ their spamming trick is to create an association between a subject and their catchphrase, and then one between the catchphrase and their company. It doesn't seem to matter if forums like this delete their spam link, as long as some forums fail to. And the "question" usually remains to generate search engine queries for their catchphrase.

One giveaway seems to be that their catchphrase always gets stated in quotes in their planted "question", so this may be something that forum moderators will need to start looking out for...

Hello, I am getting you very well...

There’re so many factors: on page: keyword in title, link text, in bold, link text from back links, size of your site, frequency of updating your site..
Or Have a look at <link snipped> that for some more tips. The main thing is that seems to work is getting you to top from other sites to help you rank well.
    Thanks!!

And right on queue, the spam link to the company.

LOL how do you report spam?
  • One really important thing with SEO companies like Elite SEO Marketing - the one who seem to be spamming this forum - is that one should be *very* cautious about companies selling SEO advice, as many are scammers.

There is no way that I would trust an SEO like EliteSEO Marketing that puts its spam on a forum (and does so really badly - so it is painfully easy to spot). There is no way on earth that I would give Elite SEO Marketing any of my money, and I would advise that others also refrain from giving them any money.

If EliteSEO Marketing are hoping that this link will do well in search results for SEO, I think it's only fair that those who find the company through it get useful information on Elite SEO Marketing - and why no-one should give Elite SEO Marketing their money.

Ignore last post, the answer is at the top of every page:embarasse !
    REPORTED

EDIT doesnt seem to help their rankings anyway, a google search for the phrase above does not list them in the first 4 pages, i couldnt be bothered to look further

Fair point - you may be right that it is more of an up-front scam than an attempt to get their company name up the rankings.
