Help - Ipod Touch sync question

Hello all,
Would be most grateful for some assistance if possible.
I have an 8gb Ipod Touch (bought yesterday).
I have downloaded iTunes but when I tried to sync my Ipod the sync option from the drop down menu was shaded grey and therefore not available.
I have two theories on what it might be but i could of course be completely wrong. Could it be, and I am hoping it is this one that iTunes is not recognising my Ipod becuase I have not go through the full registration process, i.e. using my credit card (which i will do but couldn't do so last night); or that my 2.0 usb drive isn't working properly (have downloaded new drivers).
Any thoughts on this question and any advice on the Ipod Touch in general would be great.
Thanks

You don't need to give Apple your credit card info for an iPod Touch to work, you just need to connect it to iTunes. However, if you want to create an iTunes account without giving any payment info, just go to the iTunes Store and try and buy a free application. It'll ask you to sign in or create a new account. Select create a new account, and when you get to the payment page, there will now be an option for "none".
Try checking the box to manually manage your music and see if that works.0 -
Thanks Marty,
I will have a look at that when i get in tonight.
Really want to get some music on there now.0 -
Have you registered your ipod - given it a name etc so that it appears in the menu on the left-hand side?0

Also, the 'Sync' button will be grayed out while it performs a software update. That caught me out initiallyStarting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

no i haven't done that. does the option do this come after your register with itunes or should it be before?
if it's after, then perhaps i need to register a card?
if it's before, then perhaps my USB port isn't working at the 2.0 level?0 -
