Claiming Financial Hardship- good idea??

Hi all, first post,

I hope someone can clarify the 'Financial hardship' guidelines.

I use the consumer action group forums and i've seen posts over there where people have gone through the FH claims to try to get charges back.

One persons bank said 'ok your in financial hardship' but didn't do anything and the claim is still stayed.

Another persons bank cacelled all their direct debits.

I understand theres nothing in the guidance to force banks to speed your claim.

Can anyone elaborate?

John

I post over there under the name "yourbank" and that is correct. Under the FSA Hardship on bank charges, the bank does not have to refund 1p of charges. They can make a refund, they can suspend charges(which is still benefitting someone in financial hardship) or they can refuse your case which you can go to the FOS with.
I am not sure the title of your thread is that good, I will explain. You are either in financial hardship or you aren't is the way you should look at it.

  • Hi,
it's not for me it's for someone else, who is definately suffering FH.

I didn't want him to claim if they cancel all his DD, and if there not gonna pay, whats the point?

If the DD's keep bouncing then are not paying them anyway so the best thing is to cancel them and ask for Bank Giro Credits ie paying in slips to pay the bills.
