US fridge food centre

Hi, am wanting to purchase an american style fridge freezer. The one I like the most has a water and ice dispenser (which i wasn't too fussed about originally). I was told in the shop that they need plumbing in which put me off somewhat - does anyone know what this involves and is it tricky to do. Thanks in advance RM

They have a very small bore pipe that needs connecting to the cold water supply. The one that you get drinking water from, not from a storage tank, (I would suppose.) They come with a certain length, and you can buy more. We had to get more pipe and connectors from the company we got the fridge from. If I remember correctly, it wasn't expensive, and came quickly.

We plumbed it in ourselves. We couldn't put it that close to water supply, and cut a channel in the floor to run pipe to it. We laid it in a length of blue tubing the type used for gas pipes, for protection. The actual pipe under the floor was a complete length, no joins, all joins were on the surface. We could not buy the pipes anywhere but the original supplier. Was two years ago though, so the might be in plumbing shops now.
  • the plumbing part is fairly easy using 1/4" piping (just over 6mm thickness) costs approx 34p a metre!

You can get the cabling here (+ other bits and pieces)
