Whats the weather like in California in April??

Going to Anaheim, SM and San Fran in mid April and was wondering what the weather is going to be like. I have looked at various temp charts but I know a temp can be different subject to winds etc. We havent got any 'Summer' clothes and was wondering if we should be a couple of things incase it is going to be warm. Also as staying in SM whether the beach will be warm.
Thanks Sx

  • Last time I was in San Francisco in April it was rainy and not that warm (wore a light cardigan). The time before that it was warm. It is hard to tell. Check out the 10 day forecast before you go.

  • I've been to California in the spring 6 times, varying from late March to mid May and always found the weather fairly warm. You may get a bit of rain and cloud further north but otherwise it should be sunny and pleasant. Further south it should be warm if maybe not sun bathing weather. As inspector monkfish suggests you can pick up clothes whilst you're there if the weather's not what you expected.

I'm going again at the end of April and will be taking a light waterproof and a few cardigans but otherwise will be wearing jeans or trousers & t-shirts/blouses and sandals (with some trainers in case in cooler/rainy).

    Enjoy your trip.
  • As others have said it varies greatly. You would be unlucky to be cold, except in San Francisco where it can be chilly any time of year.
In LA in March/April you can definitely get very hot sunbathing weather and my kids swam in the sea - too cold in there for me.
Have also experienced warm t shirt weather in San Francisco that time of year.

SF tends to be cooler and windier than LA.

But April is usually mild - not hot, but nice. Say about 18 - 20 degrees C.

    Thanks everyone.

Probably just take a few small items and if need anything can go and purchase some whilst i'm over there. Didnt want to back jeans and jumpers and be boiling hot when arriving and having to go shopping straight away (strange for a girl, hey!) Thanks again.
