  • Hi When i was made BR i phone the co-op and sorted an account out on line, but they could not give me an account number etc. I needed my wages paid into an account, so i opened a think Banking account which you can find out on line at www.thinkbanking.co.uk. I did have to pay an inital £25.00 plus they charge £12.50 a month managment fee. they do not do a credit check on you, i told them i was bankrupt and they were great, i got an account number and sort code over the phone. I did receive a welcome pack from the coop a couple of week later, so i have closed think bank account and will use coop account. Good luck

Its a shame you have to pay through the nose though......can you not appeal against the decisions? try & get someone involved from the obudsman service....I know it wont help in the short term though because you NEED an account sooner rather than later
Thing that annoys the hell out of me though is how Barclays have handled this....something is putting them off they've seen something on your credit files question is though what??

Bit of a long shot here, but could it be that you applied too soon after going BR so your file hadn't been updated to show your BR and the Barclays debts as defaulted on your credit file. It may just have looked as though you had outstanding balances and were trying to open another account with them IYSWIM.

Have you read K2nga's thread, he had trouble with Barclays but got an account in the end, as did dvs.

  • That might be it Thanks Peachy I have checked both my exquifax and experian my BR is on experian under court info. but on the accounts all accounts show active and upto 4 late payments. and theres nothing on equifax just loads of late payments. So it might be the case. I applied for the Barclays the day of my BR so depending on when they searched in the 3 weeks it took them to send me a letter they might not have seen the BR, just lots of late payments.

So I might wait and go into the branch with my BRO, What card do I get with Cashminder?, I hear they don't give connect cards to the undischarged.
  • Barclays rubbish bank waste me a month keep sending letter at last declined me .Co-op is the best.
Discharged nearly 15yrs and happen again😓

Cashminder? (the co-op one) you get a Visa Electron card....

Barclays? hmm heard different things TBH some people have been given a connect card (still undischarged) others a cash card

(according to their site you have a choice of either....believe that when I see!)

  • Sorry to go on Phil but why bearing in mind the attachment you sent why are banks (so far Natwest and RBS) advicing me to go into branch and apply. Do you think they are using discretion to make decisions?
