Just wanted to say thanks

As the title says just wanted to say a big thanks to all the great people on this forum for making this process abit less stressful for me.
I've been in debt for roughly 8 years now and managed to rack £37.500 due to been an idiot, having a wife who spent too much and bouts of shopping while a tad depressed. Now having moved back into my mum's a divorce(which i walked away from with nothing not even a share of the house we bought together) and a change of career hopefully happening soon as i've been unemployed for nearly 4 months I now feel my life is starting to get back on track.
Reading peoples stories on here finally made me decide to go for bankrupcy(not an easy decision but the only one)so last week i finally got the papers through and sat down with my Mum to fill them out yesterday.
Just waiting for the court date now which i think is going to absolutely terrify me and when the reality of it all sets in.
So once again a big thanks to everyone on here for all there helpful posts.

  • Hello Rob and welcome to the forum.

It is a great place for getting loads of help and support. Don't forget if you need advice on anything, just post and there will be plenty of replies.
Do you need to post your SOA o here for us to have a look or is everything in hand?
Have you taken advice from one of the debt agencies, CCCS, National Debtline or the CAB? You do get asked at court if you have done so.
    Best Wishes

    Hi Rob,

Welcome to the board. I'm quite new myself but you are in the right place.

I feel as though I am writing a line under the past and making a fresh start. I hope that this is with you and you certainly sound like you are.

I wish you well and hopefully speak soon as we go through it together

    Hiya rob, welcome welcome welcome

sounds like your pretty well organised for the big day so far...try not to get too upset & stressed its really not half as bad as your imagining it will be honest! In one way or another we've all come to the bankruptcy decision, we've all been through what your going through so IF you have any questions (even the ones you think might be daft) ppst away....I found the guys & gals here a great source of help & support nearly 2yrs ago when I went bankrupt

  • Thanks alot Saf that means alot to me it feels really good to get things off my chest as I've been keeping things rather secretive as for some reason some people seem to perceive bankruptcy as a dirty word the only person who knows what I'm doing is my Mum.None of my friends or family know what I'm doing the only thing I'm really dreading is telling my girlfriend of 8 months.
She's part of the reason I'm doing this as we've been talking about me moving into her place and I don't want the baggage of my marriage hanging over my head(and hers when I do start my new life)hopefully she'll be understanding.Going to cook her a meal and have a chat about it on Friday night.

  • Hi losing the plot,

Welcome aboard....although if you`ve been lurking for a while you probably `know` most of us already!!

Well done on making that decision....make sure that you have taken the proper advice from the debt charities & ask away if you need any advice.

The coming year will be tough but not as tough as the last 8 by the sounds of your post & at least you can see that light at the end of the tunnel.

....cooking for your girl on Friday:eek: ....make sure its a proper meal...fish supper from the local chippy just not good enough !!! hehe:D

For a bloke called Losing The Plot, sounds like you are clued up Rob and in a better position now than before when you was getting yourself into debt :)

Having your Mum there for you is great. Anyone who has anything bad to say is just someone who is trying to overlook their own unhappiness.

I have my Dad there for me as my Mum has dementia. It's a great support and as he said, you'll be headline news for 2 minutes tops. Then it will be on to someone else.

As for your new girlfriend I'd imagine it would be good for her that you are wanting to put a line under your ex and move on. Ladies? Am I right? Also if she wants you as a bankrupt, then you know she wants YOU and not what you can buy her ... and that sounds like the kinda lady you want right now.

    Keep me posted

  • Thanks to everyone for all your kind words and support.
Well my Mums just got back so about to start looking through the paperwork again.
And no Angie it won't be a fish supper i've got abit more class than that but she woulb probably prefer that. :rotfl::rotfl:
I have 2 questions though what's this BRU/O people keep talking about(i'm abit thick on stuff like this?
Also when i signed my divorce settlement I signed the house and entire equity to her and she had it written in that i owed her £800(that she kindly gave me so we could pay our bills in the january before I left her)£600 of which is still outstanding so will i need to pay that back to her or will that be written off as I look at it as been a debt that's hanging over my head.

The first question BRU/O is an order made by the OR if someone has been a little naughty, like massive gambling, buying expensive items and borrowing loads of welly they had no hope of paying back. These are a few things but depending on what's gone on it basically means the BR lasts longer. You cant be a accountant, director or a Judge that sort of thing. It doesn't mean you will be sent to prison for 20 years. Someone will no doubt give a definitive answer:p
    Second question:confused:
