When Will It Stop!!

Hi

I haven't been here for a while. I have had a browse and what I am going to mention here may have already been talked about.

I took on a credit card (Halifax) about 6yrs ago. I used it to purchase a pc... this one in fact. My card was almost at it's limit buying it.

Events overtook me as the months went on. My husband became ill and was unable to work full time. He was then in hospital for 3 months. I was unable to pay the regular amount on the credit card. Interest grew and grew. I was unable to keep up so I stupidly stopped paying. No matter what I did I just couldn't cope. I had two school age children and I just felt that they were my priority. I didn't know what 'tomorrow' would bring.

I informed the bank that I was in difficulty. The next thing I knew I had a company called Blair Oliver and Scott demanding the full payment for Halifax. I think it was their way of saying, we don't care so we are passing it on to our solicitors. I felt awful. I arranged with this company to pay £5.00 amonth. It was agreed. I paid regularly for about 2yrs I think. Then I had a letter from Cabot. Debt Collection? Saying that Halifax (my original lender) had sold the debt on to them and they will be persuing the full amount.

I borrowed - About £1000.00 The total they are asking for is well over £3000!!
I sent them one of the standard letters from this site about wanting to see the original signed agreement and that I was not prepared to accept them as my Debtor.
They replied saying that they don't have to send me one but as I had requested it, they will do their best to get hold of it and send it to me. I had a letter the other day stating that they are still trying to get hold of the document (it has now been over a month since the 12 days were up).

I know that I owe the money, and I will do all I can to pay it back but I can't afford £3000+!!!
I am disabled, as is my husband now and we cannot work. We are on benefits as it is.

I would like to know now how to go about fending off these awful people - hopefully forever!!

We have already had to give up our home. It was repossessed. We had no option. We now rent and I have to say, it is a relief in many ways.
I am scared that this thing will continue to haunt me. We have been through enough financial rubbish lately and now I just want to get on with my life.

What should I be aware of?
What happened to the £5.00 a month that I was paying to Blair Oliver and Scott!?? Does that not count?

I am in a pickle.

    hi
I think if you go over to the dfw forum and post on there you may get a few more answers--I believe that if they can't get hold of the original agreement they should pass the debt back to the original holder. Please repost and good luck

I hope you find a way out of this predicament, and of course learn from the experience along the way.

I have to say though, that it is unfair to label these people as "awful", simply because they are attempting to reclaim the money you borrowed, together with the interest & charges accrued.

Please don't forget that every pound lost to people who can't/won't repay debts is another pound lost from the company's balance sheet, and therefore all of our future pensions.
