Washig bedding?

After watching 'The perfect house wife' I now realise i have hideous pillows!!! Can i wash them to make them last a little longer? Any tips? Not sure what is inside them but i pressume it depends on the type of stuffing.

If they are polyester of similar then you can wash them, but if they are Dunlopillo I would say not. An easycare wash at 40 C would probably be OK. After washing you would need to dry them and "rearrange" the filling. At Ikea the pillows are so cheap it may not be worth your while to wrestle with them!

It's not usually worthwhile washing cheap polyester-filled pillows - they go lumpy! And you would really need a hot wash to get rid of dust mites/ sweat residue (eek). If you don't mind a soft pillow, I'd say buy cheap and treat as disposable (or recycle for dog bedding).
If you prefer a firmer pillow, buy something a bit more substantial and "double wrap" with a proper pillow protector and an under (old?) pillowslip. I change my under pillowslip every other bed change and wash the protector every couple of months. Men and teenage boys may need them changing more often - their secretions seems to stain more readily!!

Yeah, they do go lumpy, just buy new ones and then use a plain white pillow case underneath your pretty one to protect them like ka7e said.

Thank you all, i'll be trying to wash them then i'll replace them but get the covers to protect them :-)
